EDINBURGH – PORTREE

The coach tour starts from Edinburgh at 0930 hours (207 High Street Royal Mile) and travel west passing Linlithgow Palace and Stirling. Admire the views of the imposing castle and the Wallace Monument. Pass the Doune Castle, the setting for the Monty Python’s Holy Grail before stopping in Callander for refreshments. Crossing into the Highlands, head north towards Loch Lubnaig, Loch Earn, Crianlarich and Tyndrum, stopping enroute for lunch (own arrangements). Continue through the spectacular mountain pass of Glencoe, past Fort William and  Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis and carry on west on the Road to the Isles through the stunning Five Sisters of Kintail, the mountains guarding the pass on the way to the Isle of Skye. Stop to visit the famous Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland’s most photographed castles, set at the junction of 3 lochs and completely surrounded by water. Crossing over the bridge to Skye, follow the dramatic coastline north towards the island’s capital, Portree. Transfer to your hotel and enjoy the evening at leisure. Overnight in Portree.

DAY 2

PORTREE

Today, you can explore Skye at leisure. Travel north to the stunning Quiraing Mountain Pass and enjoy a spectacular walk through some of Skye’s extraordinary geological scenery. See the Kilt Rock, composed of basalt columns with its waterfall cascading over the cliffs and down into the sea below. Following lunch, travel to Neist Point and take a walk to the lighthouse that is the furthest point west on Skye. Another option is to visit Dunvegan Castle, the ancient ancestral seat of the Clan McLeod. You can also visit the Talisker Distillery, or the famous Cuillin Hills. Overnight in Portree. (B)

DAY 3

PORTREE – EDINBURGH

Travel south through the Cuillin Hills and then back over to the mainland. You can admire the stunning views over Loch Duich and the Five Sisters of Kintail. Head toward Loch Ness for lunch and the possibility of spotting ‘Nessie’. There is a boat trip (summer only) available here that will get you that bit closer. Journey south through the Grampian Mountains, along Loch Laggan, past Dalwhinnie, home to Scotland’s highest whisky distillery and Blair Castle, stopping for refreshments in the popular Victorian resort of  Pitlochry before returning to Edinburgh, past Perth and over the Forth Road Bridge. The tour concludes in Edinburgh at approximately 1930 hours. (B)
