Embark on a two-day escape exploring the mesmerizing beauty of the highlands. This spectacular coach tour takes you in search of the famous Loch Ness monster with an overnight stay in the Highland capital of Inverness.
| DAY 1
ARRIVE EDINBURGH – INVERNESS The coach tour starts from Edinburgh at 0930 hours (207 High Street Royal Mile) and head northwest past Linlithgow palace, the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots. Travel past the Stirling castle, which was once known as the ‘Key to Scotland’ and the Wallace Monument, commemorating Scotland’s great hero William Wallace, played by Mel Gibson in the Oscar-winning movie Braveheart. Continue past Doune Castle, set of Monty Python’s ‘Holy Grail’. Cross over the geological fault line, separating the Lowlands from the magnificent Highlands taking in the splendour of Loch Lubnaig, Loch Earn, through Glen Ogle and Glen Dochart, reaching wild and remote Rannoch Moor and into Glencoe – Scotland’s most famous glen and the scene of the terrible massacre in 1692. Enjoy a stop in the midst of this awe-inspiring scenery and soak in the magic of your spectacular and dramatic surroundings. Continue your journey northwards up the ‘Great Glen’ to Loch Ness, covering the whole 23 miles of the famous Loch giving plenty of time to try and spot ‘Nessie’! The loch is best known for the mythology surrounding the Loch Ness Monster (Nessie). Carry onwards and shortly you arrive into Inverness, capital of the Highlands. Overnight in Inverness. DAY 2 INVERNESS – LOCH NESS – EDINBURGH This morning, travel south along Loch Ness, making a brief photo stop. Continue west towards glorious Glen Affric, one of the only remaining areas of Caledonian pine in Scotland. Spend some time here to enjoy a walk through the ancient forest, alongside the River Affric. Continue to travel east to Drumnadrochit, stopping for photos of Urquhart Castle with its mighty ruins overlooking Loch Ness. Take a break at the charming village of Fort Augustus where you can either have an optional lunch or time at leisure to take a boat trip out onto the Loch to look for ‘Nessie’. Journey south through the Grampian Mountains, along Loch Laggan, past Blair Castle, stopping for refreshments in the popular Victorian resort of Pitlochry before returning to Edinburgh, past Perth and over the Forth Road Bridge.
